Raising funds for one of Australia’s pre-eminent marine research facilities, the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS), you’ll also uncover some of the mysteries that lie beneath the surface of Sydney Harbour with SIMS scientists dotted along the course ready to answer any question.

Fantasea Harbour Hike is an annual event that takes in one of the most picturesque, but least known walks in Sydney.  It is an event that brings together friends and family in the spirit of fun, fresh air, education, and exploration.

The 12km course takes you past majestic federation homes, beautiful bays, classic boats, bountiful bushland with gorgeous wild flowers and spectacular views of the city. On top of this, you will gain a greater understanding of Sydney Harbour's unique marine environment and history.

The finish line is located at SIMS research facility, with breathtaking views over Chowder Bay, Mosman. Hikers who complete the course, together with family and friends meeting them afterwards, will be treated to a host of activities for the whole family with SIMS interactive displays, kids activities, food stalls and an exclusive glimpse at the brand new SIMS Discovery Centre all on offer from 10.00am – 3.00pm.

All hikers are invited to take a free ferry ride back to the start line at Kirribilli thanks to major event partner, Fantasea.

Feedback from 2014 Harbour Hike participants

"What a fabulous event yesterday! Beautiful day, beautifully organised and such a lot of good karma along the way! Many thanks for a really wonderful experience.”

- Jenny, Leichhardt

“We had a fabulous day.  I realised that I have spent more time on the water getting to know our beloved harbour than discovering from the shore.  The experience exceeded any expectation!  This walk is accessible, beautiful and delivers many opportunities to stop, detour or just take in the day. We also loved the discovery stations that provoked communal cheating and a good laugh! And we will do it again and through this experience encourage more friends to follow and learn more about SIMS. Congratulations on a great idea, brilliantly conceived."

- Michelle, Vaucluse

“A joyous day participating in the inaugural SIM harbour walk. Excited vibe, informative and endless breathtaking vistas of the most beautiful harbour.“

- Jan McKenzie, Sydney

"What a fabulous event on Sunday…the pandas loved it. So well organised and perfect weather to match!"

- Marni Ryan, WWF

"Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful walks in the world and most informative too. Made me realise how lucky Sydney is to have such a magnificent jewel in the form of Sydney Harbour. Thanks SIMS for organising."

- Marguerite, Sydney
